To prepare for a full return to in-person learning, some US colleges are requiring students, faculty, and staff to get vaccinated against COVID-19 before the fall semester begins.
Cornell University and Duke University were among the first to announce a blanket vaccine mandate and an expanding list of private and public institutions soon followed.
As stated by Michael Huey, the interim CEO of the American College Health Association and former assistant vice president for student-health services at Emory University, “to us, the key thing is to get as many students, faculty, and staff vaccinated before the fall semester, because everything is going to hinge on that.”
Some are challenging the legality of the mandate. Two lawsuits have already been filed. However, it’s important to mention that a majority of US institutions already require their students to be vaccinated against measles, rubella, and other viral diseases.
Below are some of the US colleges that have made the COVID-19 vaccine mandatory.
