United States – As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, more institutions are requiring international students to be fully vaccinated before the Fall semester begins. Different logistic challenges are bound to happen along the way but this could help increase the enrollment rate in US colleges and universities.

In 2019-2020, there were more than 1 million foreign students enrolled in over 4,000 institutions in the US. If international students are fully vaccinated, the US can bring their enrollment rate up, especially that institutions rely more on overseas students for tuition and revenue. US universities and colleges are devising a way to check resources on the logistics when international students arrive in the US and have their vaccinations, as well as how early each student must arrive in the US before the semester begins.

There are different COVID-19 vaccination protocols for institutions such as Johns Hopkins University. The university will accept students who have been fully vaccinated with approved vaccines worldwide but will not provide for a vaccine shot. Other universities require students of revaccination upon arrival.

School for International Training’s Graduate Institute Assistant Professor Melissa Whatley said, institutions that offer vaccination upon arrival of the students, are very attractive and may draw more interest.

Institutions must also take into consideration that other countries are not yet on the same page with the US, in terms of the rollout of vaccines. India has been having a high surge in COVID-19 cases causing a shortage of their WHO-accepted vaccine. Students from other developing countries also struggle to have their vaccinations due to availability.
