Beginning this fall, the University of Windsor will be making full vaccination against COVID-19 with a Health Canada-approved vaccine mandatory for its students, faculty members, staff, and community members of the institution.

While the university has already worked to strengthen its safety protocols before the students’ return to campus, Windsor has decided to require at least the first dose of the COVID vaccine by Sept. 1. The second dose of the vaccine should then be administered by Oct. 1.

Key Takeaways:

  • The University of Windsor requires the members of the university community to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
  • All members of the university community are also compelled to declare their vaccination status.
  • The university has recently launched a COVID-19 vaccination awareness campaign in partnership with student leaders to provide educational platforms for accessing vaccines in the community and overcome vaccine hesitancy.

All individuals that compose the University of Windsor community who will be returning to the campus will be compelled to declare their COVID-19 vaccination status.

Aside from this, for those who have not yet been vaccinated and/or have received accommodations, regular testing protocols will be established to cater to them. Meanwhile, accommodations will be made for vaccination exemptions for those that do have medical reasons or are covered by the protected grounds under the Ontario Human Rights Code.

It can also be recalled that the University of Windsor launched a vaccination campaign last month to urge students to get inoculated and to provide educational platforms to access vaccination in the community and overcome vaccine hesitancy.

The “Knock Out COVID” campaign aims to intensify the drive to provide facts and figures that will diminish the hesitancy among students and the under-25 population around Windsor-Essex County.

According to UWindsor President Robert Gordon, the health and safety of the members of the university remain to be their top priority during this time. Even the university’s student center continues to implement COVID preventive measures after its reopening in July.

The University of Windsor is doing its part alongside other postsecondary institutions across the province and the country in ensuring that their communities are vaccinated against COVID-19.
