The Swinburne University of Technology (CRICOS Provider Code: 00111D) has welcomed the Victorian Government’s AU$50 million International Education Resilience Fund, which is part of the state’s measures to throw a lifeline to higher education institutions and international students burdened by the ongoing border closures.

The funding will help Swinburne maintain its international education programs, improve remote and offshore instruction delivery, continue its international student welfare and support services, and increase student engagement in activities, events, and programs.

Victorian Treasurer Tim Pallas recognized the crucial contribution of higher education institutions in keeping the economy and community alive.

Under the Victorian government’s plan, AU$50 million will be provided toward an international education resilience fund because of the declining international student revenue due to border closures.

Funds have been allocated to the state’s 10 universities based on their size and the number of international students that make up their overall student population.

On behalf of the institution, Vice-Chancellor Pascale Quester extended his gratitude to the Victorian government for recognizing the devastating impacts of COVID-19 to the international education sector and taking the necessary steps to attract and bring back students at Victorian universities such as Swinburne.

Currently, 88,000 international student primary visa holders coming from about 100 different countries are in Victoria, while another 54,500 primary visa holders were enrolled but cannot travel yet.
