This year, the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) has achieved national recognition from the STEM Workforce Diversity Magazine for its commitment to bridge diversity gaps in the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) workforce.

The university, with more than 700 students participating in Diversity and Inclusion events, programs, and initiatives, has landed on the top 20 universities list of STEM Workforce Diversity Magazine this year.

Key Takeaways:

  • RIT is among the top 20 universities list of the STEM Workforce Diversity Magazine this year.
  • The list is based on the result of an annual magazine survey, asking respondents to name the universities that foster diversity among their community.
  • RIT has celebrated the new milestone and committed to making the fields more inclusive, diverse, and equitable.

STEM Workforce Diversity Magazine, an Equal Opportunity Publication and one of the most widely read career magazines in the country, is the first to publish for the professional, diversified high-tech workforce. This year’s top 20 universities list resulted from the annual reader survey mailed to randomly selected readers of the magazine.

The institution is notable for advancing a diversified working community by covering various individuals and groups, including women, minority groups, and people with disabilities.

RIT is one of the institutions identified by selected survey respondents when asked to name the top universities they believe offer a diversified curriculum, student base, faculty, and staff and foster a diverse and inclusive learning environment in STEM.

It is not only in the STEM field that RIT upholds diversity and inclusion but also in the university at large. In fact, the Division of Diversity and Inclusion works collaboratively with the entire RIT community to create an environment that embraces all students, faculty, and staff.

According to Keith Jenkins, RIT’s vice president and associate provost for Diversity and Inclusion, while the institution has been already recognized as a leader in helping diversify the STEM workforce, there still needs to be significant progress.

Jenkins added that RIT has fortified its commitment to engaging in that work to make these fields more diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
