As the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) joins the New York state chapter of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), students benefit from a platform to jump-start their careers in the health care IT workforce.

HIMSS New York State Chapter, as an Academic Organizational Affiliate, is composed of students and CEOs that represent organizations across the ecosystem. It provides a forum for its members to collaborate and learn while improving the future of healthcare.

Key Takeaways:

  • Rochester Institute of Technology announced joining the New York chapter of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society.
  • The institution’s participation will benefit students in starting their careers in the health care IT workforce.
  • RIT will be hosting an informational webinar on Oct. 7 about the partnership and its health care IT-related programs.

HIMSS is a not-for-profit professional organization with more than 120,000 members nationally.

Since RIT is now a member of the New York chapter, students access useful information on national activities with impact and local and regional upcoming events coordinated with HIMSS.

Aside from students getting the opportunity to participate in seminars and virtual events, they also become closer to industry partners looking to fill internship, co-op, and full-time positions.

RIT offers bachelor’s degrees in related fields, including computing and information technologies, human-centered computing, management information systems (MIS), software engineering, and supply chain management.

Master’s degrees in health informatics, information technology and analytics, health systems management, and business analytics are also offered at RIT.

To give students relevant information about the partnership and RIT’s health care IT-related programs, the institution will be hosting an informational webinar on Oct. 7.

Students can also look forward to offering HIMSS/RIT-focused career days, where they get an opportunity to meet with industry partners from eight major health care systems in New York and more than 550 software firms.
