Wilfrid Laurier University will host a lecture series, Inspiring Conversations, which will include topically relevant research. The Aug. 24 lecture, “A Year of Research on COVID-19: Where do we go from here?” will feature experts who will provide details on ongoing research about the coronavirus.

The next series, responding to current events and providing a public venue for conversation where community partners can join, will focus on COVID-19 research in Ontario, community transmission, treatments and therapies, and other related topics.

Key Takeaways:

  • Laurier will launch the new lecture series titled “A Year of Research on COVID-19: Where do we go from here?” on Aug. 24.
  • The lecture series is free of charge and open to the public.
  • The university’s lecture series aims to prepare students and parents for in-person classes moving forward.

As another school year at Laurier draws near, the university’s lecture series is expected to prepare students and parents for in-person classes to be implemented at all educational levels, including post-secondary educational institutions.

The lecture series will feature speakers Stephanie DeWitte-Orr, an associate professor of Health Sciences and Biology at Laurier, and Ryan Hiebert (BSc ’17), a graduate student in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at the University of Toronto.

Meanwhile, Dr. Elan Tsarfati (BA ’04), a Royal College of Pathology fellow in London, England and a clinical medical microbiologist at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert, Scotland will be moderating the lecture.

Apart from which vaccines are available in Canada and whether vaccine boosters will be necessary, the lecture series will also cover topics such as herd immunity, why we think kids are not as susceptible to COVID-19 as adults, and the current state of viral transmission, among others.

Laurier’s new Inspiring Conversations lecture series will be free and open to the public on Aug. 24 at 11:30 a.m. via Zoom. Interested participants may register online here.
