King’s Western University Canada will be launching the Job Shadow Program during the 2021-2022 academic year to give students  unique opportunities to immerse themselves in an actual workplace environment.

The King’s Job Shadow Program will allow students to experience on-the-job learning with a matched employer over one or two consecutive days during one of the two Reading Weeks in November and February.

Key Takeaways:

  • The King’s Job Shadow Program will be launched during the 2021-2022 academic year.
  • The program will enable King’s students to know what a typical day in a career or industry of interest is like.
  • Registration is already open for students regardless of their degree program or year of study.

The university recently launched the King’s Promise Program to give students more opportunities to connect with work-integrated learning in London. The new Job Shadow Program at King’s will complement the initial program.

The university provides platforms for students to learn about workplace cultures and norms while demonstrating professional relationship management skills.

The Job Shadow Program aims to foster self-confidence and awareness among the students as they get first-hand experiences working within a professional environment.

The program brings students closer to professional networks within London in Ontario and its surrounding areas.

King’s considers the program to be a win-win situation for the students and employers since the latter can benefit from students’ current knowledge, creative thinking, flexibility, and fresh approaches.

According to King’s Promise Developer/Experiential Learning Coordinator Jenny Richmond-Bravo, the program will help employers better articulate what they look for in new hires and establish a connection to future employees.

At present, the university is already working on recruiting employer partners in the nonprofit, tech, business, financial, and social services sectors.

King’s students are free to register regardless of their degree program or year of study.

Students need to complete the online Career Decision-Making module through the open-access web platform CompleteStudent before starting their placement.
