In fall 2020, more than 200 international students started their higher education journey at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) through a remote setup. Now, a majority of these international students continue their journey in person at the RIT campus.
With roughly 3,260 new students anticipated to move in and start their studies at RIT in August, RIT assured students of a more traditional approach despite the safety restrictions.

The pandemic had nearly pushed international students to defer their college enrolment until vaccines against COVID-19 became available and international travel restrictions were lifted.
Paul Keller, RIT’s director of international enrollment, reached out to students to discuss alternative options, including the remote learning option.
Out of the 242 international students who began their studies at RIT online in fall 2020, 65 were undergraduate students, 159 were master’s students, and 18 were doctoral students.
In addition, 20 undergraduate students started at RIT’s global campuses in Dubai, China, Croatia, and Kosovo.
Eighty-three percent of these students have continued their journeys at RIT’s campus in Henrietta. Six of the master’s students have continued to study remotely, and five have already graduated.
RIT will still be offering the remote learning option for graduate students.
