Rochester Institute of Technology’s Combined Accelerated Pathways Program, designed for goal-oriented students who want to earn both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in as little as five years, has welcomed its first university cohort.

Through the years, RIT has been offering dual-degree programs for students, and the Combined Accelerated Pathways Program is one of the programs that target incoming first-year students at the institution.

Key Takeaways:

  • Rochester Institute of Technology launched the Combined Accelerated Pathways Program.
  • The program enables outstanding students to earn two degrees in less time, alongside study perks.
  • Students can enroll in one of these pathways in two ways.

Prior to the launch of the program, only when students are already in the middle of their journey in their bachelor’s programs do colleges or departments market graduate programs.

Now, RIT’s Combined Accelerated Pathways Program helps outstanding undergraduate students earn two degrees in less time and with cost savings, while still taking advantage of cooperative education experiences, study abroad, research, internships, and more.

Some examples of accelerated pathway combinations are Interior design BFA – Master of Architecture, Software engineering BS – computer science MS, Industrial engineering BS – sustainable engineering MS, and Supply chain management BS – MBA among others.

RIT provided two ways for students to enroll in one of these pathways.

Outstanding applicants for freshman admission may be offered conditional early acceptance to a master’s degree program as an incoming first-year student.

For students currently enrolled in a qualifying undergraduate degree program, they may apply for admission to an accelerated pathway after their second or third year of study, depending upon their bachelor’s degree program.

According to Diane Ellison, RIT’s senior associate vice president in the Office of Graduate and Part-time Enrollment Services, the idea for this program came out of research that’s in the field and the surveys of their prospective first-year students for fall 2021.
