FIU offers a new MS in Foreign Language Education: Teaching in Challenging Contexts Track (TiCC).

The new online MS program at Florida International University (FIU) is now available. The first program of its kind, the Foreign Language Education: Teaching in Challenging Contexts track, offers marginalized people a road to equity via language.

The university’s newest TESOL master’s degree is the world’s first of its sort, focusing on teaching in economically challenged settings.

Key Takeaways:

  • FIU provides a new M.S. in Foreign Language Education: Teaching in Challenging Contexts Track (TiCC).
  • This program is tailored to individuals who want to teach in a variety of non-traditional settings all around the world.
  • The 30-hour, 100% online master’s degree will start in August 2022 and will take a year to complete.

The MS in Foreign Language Education: Teaching in Challenging Contexts Track (TiCC) was created in response to the various issues that less affluent students, teachers, and teacher educators encounter on a daily basis.

FIU believes that teaching in challenging situations encompasses not just educating in economically challenged domestic and international settings, but also teaching in circumstances with limited and unreliable technology and remote access.

The curriculum focuses on both international and domestic issues, and it frequently handles training from remote locations with limited and unreliable technology.

This program is designed to provide students with valuable language practice while also widening their career and educational alternatives.

The 30-hour, fully online master’s degree program, which will begin in August 2022, will take only a year to complete.

The online degree allows TESOL instructors to work from wherever while continuing their education. Students learn to educate TESOL instructors in a way that they understand, while also respecting the culture and avoiding “colonialist” concepts.

This route, however, also engages in forms of responsible ESL, which opposes colonialist traditions and develops ways to add on English while fostering the traditions and languages of all students rather than engaging in practices that diminish them.
