A new Skills Hub will be created through an innovative partnership by the Discovery Park owners by combining the expertise of Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU), EKC Group, Pfizer, The Stem Hub, and the University of Kent.

Located in Sandwich, Discovery Park is the leading science park in Kent and home to many leading science companies as well as a large community of business services.

Key Takeaways:

  • A new Skills Hub will be established with Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) as a partner.
  • The Skills Hub will bring together over 160 Discovery Park-based organizations with young people and adults looking for retraining in the area.
  • To ensure a talent pipeline, the center will draw on the pooled knowledge of its partners, including local further education college groupings and universities.

The Skills Hub allows tenants to provide further training to their employees while also assisting them in finding fresh talent to propel their company ahead.

According to Jane Kennedy, Discovery Park’s Chief Business Officer, acquiring access to people with the proper skills remains one of the most difficult difficulties facing businesses of all kinds and across many industries.

The Skills Hub will bring together more than 160 organizations based in Discovery Park with young people and adults seeking retraining in the area.

The hub will make use of the partners’ collective knowledge, including its local further education college groups and universities, to ensure a talent pipeline.

From work placements and traineeships to internships and apprenticeships, the Skills Hub will assist businesses in navigating the complicated terrain of certificates.

It will also assist businesses to become more aware of the newly developed T Levels, which are the equivalent of three A-Levels and are tailored to satisfy the needs of the industry.

For Abbie Kempe, Head of Enterprise and Engagement at CCCU, the hub will make it easier for the industry to engage with their academic expertise and access our student and graduate talent, as well as provide a platform to inspire and encourage a new generation of skills and initiatives.
