The demand for an education delivered by Auburn University has never been greater, with the institution just reaching 40,000 freshmen applications, which is an all-time high for the fall semester of 2022.

The number of applications received for next fall is 68.5 percent greater than in fall 2021 and 155 percent higher than in fall 2020.

There was a 76 percent rise in students applying from Alabama and a 100 percent increase in students with a diverse background among the more than 40,000 applications submitted for autumn 2022.

According to Joffery Gaymon, Auburn’s vice president for enrollment, the institution is working hard to create connections and increase its applicant numbers as they focus on initiatives to provide greater access to underrepresented areas.

The university’s early action decisions for 2022 will be released from October to January, with normal decisions coming in March.

Auburn’s acceptance rate was 24 percent for the first two early action periods, with a total of 9,600 acceptances. Less than 7 percent of those admitted through the university’s test-optional pathway had an average ACT score of 28.6 and a GPA of 4.21.

Any valedictorian or salutatorian from a recognized Alabama high school with 50 or more graduates now qualifies for admission, according to some recent admission reforms.

For first-year students starting in autumn 2022, Auburn expanded its test-flexible option, and applicants with at least a 3.6 GPA who were unable to test were examined holistically through the test-optional pathway.

The university’s Auburn First dual-enrollment program, which provides tuition waivers to students who have proved financial need, was also expanded this autumn.

Students who complete at least six credit hours of authorized Auburn coursework and maintain a 3.0 GPA in those college classes by Aug. 15 of their senior year in high school are automatically admitted to Auburn.

Auburn also joined the Common App system, an online college application platform that serves more than three million candidates, instructors, counselors, and advisors across the country and the world.

Just last year, Auburn strengthened its efforts to reach the top kids in the state and beyond. Auburn has received almost 26,000 applications using the Common App since then.

While the early action date for autumn 2022 has passed, the final application due for that semester is Feb. 1, with decisions expected in mid-March.
