Swinburne University of Technology, forging real-world industry connections and experiences, has also taken a stand on the pressing Afghanistan crisis by extending support to its students, staff, alumni, and their families from Afghanistan.

The university has expressed its concern about Afghan people at risk as the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan. In response, Swinburne has contacted its Afghan students to remind them of the support services available to them at this time, including a range of well-being services.

Key Takeaways:

  • Swinburne offers support for its students, staff, alumni, and families affected by the Afghan crisis.
  • Well-being and support services are available for those impacted by the crisis.
  • Swinburne calls for practical support and donations through the Australian Red Cross Afghanistan Crisis Appeal.

In recent years, Swinburne has boosted its investment in safety and support initiatives focusing on education to help prevent violence, harm, and disrespect. Swinburne’s well-being and support services, including the Employee Assistance Program, were also made available to staff members concerned about the situation.

The university has also encouraged the community to provide financial assistance and donations through the Australian Red Cross Afghanistan Crisis Appeal.

Swinburne has also taken part in fundraising initiatives similar to what a team from UC Berkeley (composed of students, staffers, scholars, and faculty) initiated to extend their support to academics, journalists, and lawyers to leave Afghanistan as it falls to the Taliban.

Moreover, Adelaide Afghans also threw fundraisers to help families in Afghanistan fleeing the Taliban. At the same time, Australian students have also worked with the Afghan Cultural Association of South Australia to roll out a series of fundraisers to support the relief effort.

The Australian organization Baba Mazari Foundation has upheld its commitment to distribute $100,000 of emergency aid to internally displaced refugees.
