Through the newly launched Outbound Student Mobility program experiences at Niagara College Canada, students will soon be gaining global skills from their international study or work experiences.

The Outbound Student Mobility Pilot program was announced in the federal budget for 2019 and set to launch in April 2020. However, its launch was delayed until the summer of 2021 because of the pandemic.

Key Takeaways:

  • Niagara College Canada recently launched a new Outbound Student Mobility program for students.
  • The program will immerse students in a wide range of international study or work experiences.
  • The new Global Skills Opportunity initiative of the Canadian government made these opportunities available.

The opportunities were made possible by the Government of Canada’s new Global Skills Opportunity program to unlock students’ potentials through life-changing global skills and experiences.

As part of the federal government’s CA$95 million Outbound Student Mobility Pilot program, Niagara College was awarded CA$1 million in study/work abroad financing – two CA$500,000 grants.

Over the next four years, this money will support the launch of two programs at the college that will provide 1,500 students with virtual and real study/work abroad opportunities.

Starting in the Winter 2022 term, students will begin to see possibilities such as virtual field studies, international guest speakers, and much more incorporated into their Niagara College experience. Niagara College’s signature study and work abroad program, Be World Ready, will reopen after a hiatus.

According to Sean Coote, the vice president of the college’s international department, Niagara College will build on and enhance student mobility opportunities through the support to prepare world-ready graduates.
