The Certificate in Fundamentals of Blockchain aims to target individuals from various sectors seeking to gain knowledge of blockchain technology, a public digital ledger of transactions that records information that makes it difficult to hack or alter.

Key Takeaways:

  • DkIT introduced a new part-time QQI Level 6 certificate program in Fundamentals of Blockchain.
  • The institution plans to launch the 10-credit level 6 certificate this September 2021.
  • The new part-time program at DkIT consists of two modules delivered one night per week over two semesters.

DkIT’s new part-time program consists of two modules delivered one night per week over two semesters: “Blockchain Essentials” and “Blockchain-Based Distributed Applications and Smart Contracts.”

The Semester 1 module on Blockchain Essentials will enable the learners to develop a basic understanding of blockchain technology. Meanwhile, the Semester 2 module will explore the building blocks of Ethereum blockchain, Solidity, and smart contracts.

Currently offered as a stand-alone certificate, the Certificate in Fundamentals of Blockchain is the institution’s response to the demand of emerging technology and the critical role it will play in business, research, development, and education.

This 10-credit level 6 certificate introduces students to the world of blockchain technology and Bitcoin protocol, with a significant applied focus, including case studies and guest contributors.

Classes for this new program will be delivered remotely on Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. over two semesters.

According to Aidan Browne, the head of Business Development and Innovation at DkIT, launching this collaborative program is possible with Dundalk Chamber Skillnet and the support of state agencies Enterprise Ireland and Industrial Development Agency in the content development.

Browne said that DkIT and its partners have a shared understanding and vision of the growth of the region’s enterprise sector that depends on the progression of industry upskilling and knowledge advancement in emerging technologies and innovation.
