To offer students more variety, choices, and more real-world opportunities in 2022, Swinburne University of Technology has created a new look for its Bachelor of Arts program, which will be launched in Semester 1 next year.

Five ways through which the university improved its Bachelor of Arts program include six new interdisciplinary majors, guaranteed work experience, and a new double degree in 2022.

Key Takeaways:

  • Swinburne University’s revamped Bachelor of Arts will launch for Semester 1, 2022.
  • Swinburne improved its Bachelor of Arts program in five ways, including offering a new double degree and six new interdisciplinary majors.
  • Industry projects and internships are built into the degree program.

Swinburne’s arts degree has built its reputation as it has ranked first in Victoria and Melbourne for students’ satisfaction with the overall experience in the QILT Student Experience Survey for 2019 and 2020.

Such developments in the university’s program will focus more on the industry-driven outcomes of its graduates. Aside from becoming highly competitive in the field of arts, graduates of the program will be expected to be problem solvers, confident communicators, and game changers.

With the refurbishment of Swinburne’s Bachelor of Arts program, students build the degree they want. With only four core subjects, students are given more flexibility and the opportunity to study topics from across the university, allowing them to discover their passion and develop new skill sets. Students are also given two industry opportunities – one collaborative project and one internship.

The program also brings social science disciplines together in majors that focus on important and interesting issues. The new majors are ethics and technology, professional and creative writing, climate and social justice, perspectives on globalization, screen studies and popular culture, and politics, power and technology.

Students also get to secure a comprehensive work experience as there will not be any exams in the Bachelor of Arts. Instead, the students get exposed to job-relevant portfolios of podcasts, internships, briefing papers, campaigns, and more.

To provide the full experience to its students, Swinburne also provides them with access to the Adobe Creative Suite and free training. Adobe Digital Coaches are also available to help one-on-one or in workshops.

Finally, the university will also launch a new double degree option that can be combined with the Bachelor of Arts should the new majors turn out to be insufficient. This means that, from 2022, students can enroll in Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Psychological Sciences, which joins several existing arts double degrees.

According to Professor Mia Lindgren, Dean of Social Sciences, Media, Film, and Education, the new Bachelor of Arts draws on Swinburne’s expertise in the future of work and strong partnerships with industry and community.
