Wyoming Community College Commission (WCCC) has unanimously voted to approve, in a meeting on Oct. 7 at Sheridan College, the proposed curriculum of Northern Wyoming Community College District (NWCCD) for its Bachelor of Applied Science degree.

NWCCD is a multi-campus community college serving Sheridan, Campbell, and Johnson Counties. With the WCCC’s nod, the district has accomplished part of the rigorous seven-step approval process that it needs to complete before students enroll in the four-year program.

Key Takeaways:

  • The Wyoming Community College Commission has unanimously approved the NWCCD’s Bachelor of Applied Science degree.
  • The institution can offer the degree program once the seven-step process has been finalized.
  • Completion of the process is expected to be sometime in 2022.

Upon receiving the approval, the NWCCD will offer a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Management and Leadership with areas of emphasis in Business and Industrial Technology.

The institution aims to provide students with a degree in an applied area with various opportunities, such as diesel technology, welding, and many other fields.

Potential students of the degree program will benefit from a wide range of opportunities to seek advancement in current jobs, the ability to launch a new career, or even start their own business.

Apart from these, the program will provide graduates with jobs that give them higher earning power and a better quality of life.

This four-year degree will be a total game-changer for the students and regional employers since a more skilled workforce will be created by the community and industry partners.

The institution has assured students that the program is flexible since they can continue to work while completing this degree.

The approval of the Bachelor of Applied Science degree began in 2019 with Senate File 111, which authorized the state’s community colleges to offer bachelor’s degrees with the approval of the WCCC.

The next and final step, which includes a site visit from the Higher Learning Commission, is expected sometime in 2022.
