Malaysia – Malaysia released the latest update about the standard operating procedure for acceptance of incoming international students in the country.
The latest SOP stipulates that the country remains open to accept international students as agreed effective last January 1, 2021. However, this is not applicable to students coming from the United Kingdom, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. International students coming to Malaysia need to apply for eVAL approval, and once the Immigration Department of Malaysia approves it, only then can students apply for a travel authorization.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, students need to take the RT-PCR COVID-19 Test three days before going to Malaysia. The results must be translated into the English language. Students are also required to download the MySejahtera app from the iOS App Store, Google Play Store, or Huawei AppGallery and complete all the required information three days prior to the arrival date.
International students should only enter via KLIA and KLIA 2. Otherwise, they will be denied entry if they attempt to arrive in Malaysia elsewhere. All students coming from the following countries need to undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine:
- Asia: Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Philippines, Japan
- Africa: South Africa, Botswana, Gambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Zambia
- Middle East: United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Qatar
- Europe: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Lithuania, Netherland, Norway, France, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Romania, Spain, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey
- America: United States of America, Argentia, Brazil, Barbados, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Canada, Peru
All fees imposed by the Malaysia Government are shouldered by the students. After the quarantine period, a Release Order will be given to the student before heading off to their destination for study.
Education institutions must also provide accommodation for their incoming students and ensure proper health protocols. Students are thoroughly monitored so as to keep them safe from contracting the COVID-19 virus.
