As Auburn University ushered in this year’s Panhellenic recruitment, the educational institution saw a record 1,872 women registering, which began on Aug. 6 and culminated with Bids Day on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2021.
Despite the current COVID-19 pandemic gripping the globe, Auburn Universty’s Panhellenic recruitment still managed to pull in the record number. This can be attributed to factors such as the Panhellenic community and Greek Life office taking steps to adjust their plans and other measures
Key Takeaways:
- A record number of recruits joined Auburn University’s Panhellenic chapter this year.
- This can be attributed to the aggressive recruitment efforts of the different Panhellenic sororities and the Greek Life office.
- This continues the sustained increase in the number of recruits over the past three years.
Shifting Strategies
These steps include shifting schedules and logistics, as well as adding recruitment parties. “The women in our community have been incredibly flexible considering the changes we have made to accommodate the larger number of students,” says Kate Lightfoot, Panhellenic vice president of recruitment.
By the same token, this year saw a mix of in-person and virtual recruitment. This was complemented by a fully virtual recruitment.
Another crucial factor was the addition of 124 new Pi Chis or recruitment officers. These new Pi Chis will represent the 18 Panhellenic sororities.
Making Recruits Feel at Home
To welcome the new members, Auburn University’s Panhellenic recruitment team kicked off the week with a Virtual Event. This was followed by the Virtual Ice Water Tea Round. As these virtual events took place, In-person events were also ongoing, which included the Philanthropy Round, the Sisterhood Round, and the Preference Round.
The week ended with Bids Day that took place on Aug. 14. Held at the Auburn Arena, the event witnessed 1,690 bids, also known as invitations to become part of the Panhellenic community.
“We are so humbled and honored to have so many students interested in joining our community,” said Lady Frances Hamilton, Panhellenic president.
Over the past three years, Auburn University’s Panhellenic recruitment through its Greek Life office has witnessed record-breaking numbers. The University’s Panhellenic chapter represents 18 Panhellenic sororities, each one open to students enrolled at the prestigious university.
