For the start of its Winter 2022 Course Registration, Alexander College in Canada issued guidelines for students’ request to register for online/virtual courses. Doing such requires permission from the school registrar.

The college has recently announced some upcoming important dates related to course registration for the Winter 2022 term (Jan. 10 to Apr. 14, 2022). While the Winter 2022 courses are to be delivered face to face, some students can attend blended, fully online, and online asynchronous course offerings.

Key Takeaways:

  • Alexander College released the student guidelines on how to request to register for online/virtual courses.
  • Students who wish to enroll in virtual or online courses need to get permission from the registrar.
  • Alexander College also noted in the guidance the IRCC requirements for students’ reference.

Students who wish to register for the college’s virtual or online asynchronous courses will be required to get permission from the registrar.

The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) set the study permit compliance requirements. Many of the exemptions and processes put into place by the Canadian government during the pandemic will end on Dec. 31 this year.

To ensure that students are compliant with the IRCC requirements, they must make a special request to register for online/blended delivery courses to the Office of the Registrar before the start of term.

The following are the criteria that students must meet:

  • Must be a domestic student or international student holding a study permit (AIP and study permit application are not acceptable as study authorization);
  • Must have prepaid tuition fees sufficient for the course(s); and
  • Must not have completed more than 18 credits including course(s)-in-progress (CIP)

Alexander College also announced that a maximum of three online/blended courses is allowed to register in, where ENGL 100 online/blended must be registered with another two online/blended courses.

Once criteria are met, students may submit their Request to Register for Online/Virtual Course(s) form to the Office of the Registrar on or before Dec. 31, 2021.
