Edith Cowan University’s (CRICOS Provider No. 00279B) new 10-million AUD engineering facilities designed to drive innovative research and strengthen Western Australia’s green energy, manufacturing, technology, and mining industries have been unveiled.

The state-of-the-art laboratories denote exceptional new opportunities for industry partnerships, according to ECU Vice-Chancellor Professor Steve Chapman.

Key Takeaways:

  • ECU recently unveiled its three new engineering laboratories.
  • The three facilities are an Advanced Manufacturing Hub, a Renewable Energy Lab, and a Sustainable Energy and Resources Lab.
  • The university’s new laboratories will drive innovative research on engineering, green energy, manufacturing, technology, and mining industries.

ECU’s new facilities will bridge its future engineers to real-world experiences by delivering an enhanced focus on industry collaborations and discoveries. The university’s three laboratories include an Advanced Manufacturing Hub, a Renewable Energy Lab, and a Sustainable Energy and Resources Lab.

The Advanced Manufacturing Hub is one of Western Australia’s leading facilities in 3D printing technologies and advanced additive manufacturing. The Hub will enable rapid prototyping and production of critical components in the manufacturing industry.

Meanwhile, the Renewable Energy Lab will enable frontier research into the integration and management of renewable energy sources to support Australia’s green energy future. Lastly, the Sustainable Energy and Resources Lab supports groundbreaking research into carbon capture and storage to deliver solutions to the challenges facing the oil and gas industries.

These new laboratories will also complement ECU’s world-class research and industry-focused expertise to offer creative answers to the world’s most challenging and pressing questions.

Cutting-edge technologies and equipment, including Western Australia’s only GE Concept Laser metal 3D printing system in partnership with global mining company South32, are featured in these facilities.
