Working individuals seeking business knowledge for career growth in the forest industry can now enroll in a new online Master of Science degree program offered by Auburn University‘s School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences.

The new program in forest business and investment will prepare individuals for leadership positions that are vital to driving economic development and conservation in Alabama, in addition to strengthening Auburn’s online degree offerings.

Key Takeaways:

  • Auburn University’s School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences has created a new online Master of Science degree program.
  • The program was designed for working individuals seeking business knowledge for career growth in the forest industry.
  • Official enrollment for the new degree program will begin in the spring semester of 2022.

According to Provost Bill Hardgrave, Auburn can boost a critical component of the state’s and nation’s economy by offering this type of degree program.

Forest enterprises require a workforce trained in forestry technical skills, business techniques, and financial decision-making to maximize their return to investors due to the intricacies of this resource industry.

Students who lack significant forestry knowledge will develop forest industry-specific abilities through a hybrid curriculum of forestry, business, finance, and investments.

The Master of Science in Forest Business and Investments at Auburn University requires 31 credit hours, with 16 to 19 from the degree core and 12 to 15 elective credit hours from curricula.

The curricula cover wide-ranging topics such as finance, business administration, supply chain management, accounting, and agricultural economics.

Forest valuation and economics, forest operations and wood supply chain management, forest finance, accounting and taxation, financial analysis, forest statistics, and a forest business and investments seminar are necessary core classes.

Meanwhile, forest growth, silviculture, and management will be required of students who do not have a forestry background or a forestry degree.

The new degree’s official enrollment will begin in the spring semester of 2022, following which students will be able to enroll twice a year to start their education in the spring or fall semesters.
