To familiarize international students with everything about the campus community, King’s Western University Canada opens the 2021 Fall term with the International Blended Bridging Week on Aug. 31 to Sept. 4.
The Bridging Week, delivered in a blended format to ensure all international students can be part of the experience wherever they are, will serve as a kickstart orientation. In this week-long event, students will be exposed to various academic orientations, practical workshops, and exciting activities with their peers.
Key Takeaways:
- International students at King’s Western University Canada start their journey with the Blended Bridging Week.
- The Blended Bridging Week will be delivered in a blended format so that students, wherever they are, can experience the week-long activities.
- King’s Bridging Week was created to familiarize international students with everything about the campus community.
Through these workshops led by King’s faculty and staff and the social activities to be conducted by Bridging Assistants, international students will learn not only about academics but also about the practical side of things such as exploring the London area, signing up for a bank card, and going to the mall, among others.
Despite varying time zones of international students, they can still have access to the materials since the workshops will be live-streamed and saved for future viewings.
In-person programming, which includes game and movie night and at Palasad with Bridging Assistants, will also be a part of the Bridging Week. The university has noted that COVID-19 health and safety protocols will continue to be implemented and are subject to change.
The International Bridging Week was initiated to ‘bridge’ the gap between international students and the country where they came from as they commence their higher education journey at the university.
According to International Programs Coordinator Olivia Yusef, they are launching such an activity to help students settle in, adjust, and navigate their new environment before their arrival on the campus.
Yusef further noted that the Bridging Week is crucial for new international students since the week-long activities will give them a comprehensive overview of what it means to be a student at King’s. The Bridging Week will also enable international students to interact with their fellow students and student leaders.
The International Programs Coordinator recommends the event to all new international students to set them up for a successful year at the university.
