King’s University College Campaign School is now back to provide unique opportunities for students to take their part in Canada’s federal election on Sept. 20 regardless of their program.
Opening a new platform for students to engage and think critically, King’s University College has started offering ‘Interdisciplinary Studies 3991Y: Campaign School – 2021 Canadian Federal Election,’ an experiential learning course that will be taught by Kate Graham, a King’s Political Science lecturer and seasoned political campaigner.
Key Takeaways:
- King’s University College offers a new experiential learning course that will enable students to learn about the political landscape in Canada.
- The learning course is hands-on, guided, and will be taught by a political science expert from the institution.
For Graham, there is a need for students’ voices to be heard in terms of politics and that’s why the course is a critical opportunity to involve students. This course will enable students to share ideas, engage people, and be part of shaping the future, she added.
King’s Campaign School will allow the students to take part in the elections first-hand as they will be compelled to support a party and candidate they believe in. They will also join the riding campaign with the candidate and political party of their choice, all while having a critical look into the current political climate in Canada.
This experiential learning course boasts comprehensive, hands-on, guided student experience both in election matters and campaign management. Some of the encounters that students can learn from and be immersed in are volunteer mobilization, voter contact, fundraising, debates, issue response, and get-out-the-vote (GOTV) efforts during the poll proper.
Through the five in-class workshops, students will be exposed to the themes of election dynamics and the crises that come with these, COVID-19 impacts, the contemporary political landscape, and the basics of building a healthier democracy and a stronger nation.
According to Erin Hannah, associate professor and chair of the Department of Political Science, the course is not only for those students who love politics but also for those who feel fired up about the current political situation in Canada. Hannah added that the course offering is a way to ensure that the voices, concerns, and demands of the students and the community are heard by the electoral candidates.
Interested students are encouraged to attend the online information session on Wednesday, Aug. 25, at 11 a.m.
