Niagara College Canada requires students, employees, and contractors returning to the campus for the planned in-person activities, instruction, and services this Fall 2021 term to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

Since the announcement of the Canadian government in July, international students have been allowed entry into the country without undergoing quarantine if they have already received an approved COVID vaccine.

Key Takeaways:

  • Niagara College Canada requires the community members to declare their vaccination status upon returning to the campus.
  • The college will release the complete policy about the vaccination requirement on Aug. 23.
  • Niagara College requires the community to get vaccinated following the recent surge of COVID-19 cases, increased vaccination rates, and consultation with public health authorities.

Niagara College has also taken the necessary steps to bring its students, employees, and contractors to the campus. All individuals returning to the campus for college business will be compelled to declare their vaccination status.

Students, employees, and contractors will have to verify that they have been fully vaccinated. Fully vaccinated individuals are those who have received the complete series of a vaccine or a combination of vaccines accepted by the Government of Canada (Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Janssen) at least 14 days before entering Canada.

If individuals are not yet fully vaccinated, they must have received the first dose of a vaccine approved by Health Canada or the World Health Organization (WHO) by Sept. 7 and a second dose or full vaccination by Oct. 18.

A full policy that will include the accommodation process for those not yet vaccinated because of medical or other grounds recognized by the Ontario Human Rights Code will be released on Aug. 23.

Niagara College has released this policy following the recent surge of COVID-19 cases, increased vaccination rates, close monitoring of COVID-19 trends, and consultation with public health authorities.

Even when half of the students have already experienced some on-campus classes or labs, Niagara College remained with no transmission incidents within the campus community. The college believes that such a policy could ensure the community’s safety and eventually initiate a full return to the campus.
