Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) offers a new option for high school graduates who want to do some self-reflection before deciding on and enrolling in college: the European Post-High School Semester program.

The RIT European Post-High School Semester program is for graduating high school seniors who desire to take a break before starting college full-time.

Key Takeaways:

  • The European Post-High School Semester program at RIT is for high school graduates who want to do some self-reflection before deciding on and enrolling in college.
  • The RIT European Post-High School Semester program is designed for graduating high school seniors who want to take a vacation before beginning full-time college.
  • The program allows recent high school graduates to reside in Dubrovnik, Croatia, and take three classes at the same time.

The group could include those who want to improve their college credentials after a COVID-affected senior year, those who love to travel but have had limited recent opportunities, and those who want to learn how to properly conduct college-level research.

According to Ian Mortimer, vice president for Enrollment Management and associate provost for RIT Certified, they understand that some high school grads may wish to take a half-step into full college after experiencing turbulent high school rides due to COVID.

This European transition program is for future RIT students as well as students who choose to go to other colleges, Mortimer explained.

The program permits recent high school graduates to live in Dubrovnik, Croatia, while taking three classes, conducting original research, participating in guided tours throughout Europe, and forming new friendships and mentorships.

Students would return to their home countries with new perspectives, new friendships, and new information about how to participate in academic research, according to Mortimer, following the European semester.

Students will also have access to a highly credentialed, independent college advisor who will work with them on spring or fall 2023 admissions.

The program begins on Aug. 22, 2022, in Rome, Italy, with a week-long study tour and ends on Dec. 21, 2022.
