Ontario’s proof of vaccination requirements for indoor public settings took effect on Sept. 22, encouraging individuals to download their vaccine receipt as proof of vaccination status until an enhanced vaccine certificate with a QR code becomes available.

Individuals, especially students, must be fully vaccinated to access restaurants and bars, meeting and event spaces, indoor athletic and recreational facilities, and other facilities.

Key Takeaways:

  • The Ontario government’s proof of vaccination requirements took effect on Sept. 22.
  • The University of Windsor requires proof of vaccination and identification among students, faculty, staff, etc., to access facilities on-campus.
  • Ontario is in the process of developing an enhanced vaccine certificate with a unique QR code.

For example, at the University of Windsor, individuals must show government-issued identification and proof of vaccination status under the mandate issued by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

Currently, vaccine receipts are available in PDF form to be printed or downloaded to a computer, phone, or tablet.

Residents of Ontario who have received their vaccines against COVID-19 out of province must contact their local public health unit to record their information and receive proper documentation.

UWindsor students must present their Safe Lancer App-approved green badge, government-issued ID, and proof of full vaccination to access the St. Denis Centre, the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse, athletic therapy spaces, and indoor dining in the student center. Such a guideline applies to students, faculty, staff, athletes, support staff, and university visitors.

Meanwhile, individuals visiting from outside the province or the country will be required to show their full vaccination status and identification to enter prescribed settings.

Currently, Ontario is developing and implementing an enhanced vaccine certificate with a unique QR code and accompanying verification app that will allow users to securely and safely verify their vaccination status when scanned.

The enhanced vaccine certificate will be available starting Oct. 22.
