NorQuest College will be launching Jumpstart Program as an academic transition program for students starting in September 2021, with a series of workshops to guide them with their smooth transition and education journey at the institution.

NorQuest International’s Jumpstart Program provides a unique opportunity for international students who are new to NorQuest to better prepare themselves for the new academic and cultural environment that is waiting for them. Even current international students at NorQuest are encouraged to join the program.

Key Takeaways:

  • NorQuest will launch an academic transition program for international students in September.
  • The Jumpstart Program includes six sessions that aim to better prepare students for their educational journey at NorQuest.
  • NorQuest announced the withdrawal of students who fail to pay their outstanding fees by the 20% point of the term or of their classes in fall 2021.

Through the Jumpstart Program, students can seek support from many departments across the college including The Learner Centre, NorQuest International, The Office of Student Judicial Affairs, and even from the teachers and experts of the college.

Among the Fall 2021 sessions under the program are the following:

  • Expectations vs. Reality – Thursday, Sept. 9 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Assignment Writing + Citations and Paraphrasing – Thursday, Sept. 16 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Learner Centre (Library + Tutors) – Thursday, Sept. 23 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Immigration + OSJA + SANQC – Thursday, Sept.30 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Career Readiness + Cultural Integration – Thursday, Oct.7 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Assignment Writing + Citations and Paraphrasing – Thursday, Oct. 14 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

The first Thursday session will discuss what to expect in a Canadian classroom and how students can better prepare themselves for the kind of environment that they are about to enter. Moreover, the other sessions will tackle academic writing, academic support, academic success, and career readiness.

Students who will be attending four out of the six listed sessions will receive a Certificate of Completion. NorQuest noted that such a certificate will make a student eligible for the International Student Integrity Award.

NorQuest College has also announced that, in Fall 2021, it will be withdrawing students for non-payment if they have not paid their outstanding fees by the 20 percent point of the term or of their classes. After late fees have been posted, the Office of Registrar will notify delinquent students that they will be withdrawn if they do not pay their remaining fees.

For most students who have commenced their studies on Aug. 30, the 20 percent point of the term will be on Sept. 20.

NorQuest’s late fee and withdrawal processes do not apply to students who are still expecting Learner Income Support funding, whose loans have only recently been confirmed, and whose classes have not yet begun.

While the college does not have ‘payment plan’ arrangements for students, the Student Financials team in the Office of Registrar will work individually with students who approach them with exceptional circumstances.
