A renewed partnership between Wilfrid Laurier University and Fleming College hints at the continuing offering of the university’s “2+2” pathway that allows students to earn a diploma and degree in four years.

Through the partnership with Fleming College, noted for its excellence in environmental and natural resources sciences, WLU can provide a pathway to its Environmental Studies program.

Key Takeaways:

  • The renewed partnership will allow the two institutions to provide pathways for students to earn a diploma and degree in four years.
  • Laurier aims to train future leaders by instilling the knowledge and expertise needed in environmental studies.

This means that graduates of six Fleming College programs can directly enter into the third year of Laurier’s Honours Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies, allowing them to accomplish their degree in only two years.

Fleming College’s two-year (technician) and three-year (technology) diploma programs in the School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences, which are eligible for Laurier’s pathway option, are the following:

  • Environmental Technician and Technology
  • Ecosystem Management Technician and Technology
  • Fish and Wildlife Technician and Technology

The Honours Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies is offered at Laurier’s Waterloo campus, preparing students to enter the workforce with the combination of skills and knowledge needed to work in environmental management.

Because of its benefits to students, this pathway opportunity with Laurier will be extended for another two years.

Laurier’s BA in Environmental Studies program will expose students to a comprehensive combination of natural and social sciences to help them better understand the relationship of humans with the natural environment.

The program will be carried out through field courses. Students will design and carry out original research projects, develop applied skills, and use geographic information systems and drones, among others.

With the renewal of the two institutions’ agreement, Laurier aims to gear future leaders with the knowledge and expertise needed in the field.
