Working closely with its community toward a safe return to campus and a full academic experience this Fall semester, Adelphi University released the updated requirements for the use of face coverings and masks. In its recent COVID-19 health and wellness announcement, Adelphi University highlighted its commitment to making the safety and well-being of the community a priority on top of its vision to provide a top-rated academic experience to both international and local students.

Key Takeaways:

  • Adelphi University released new guidelines on the use of face coverings and masks.
  • Adelphi’s decision is based on the CDC’s new recommendations to mitigate the Delta variant transmission.
  • Adelphi University reminded students to get vaccinated before returning to the university.

Adelphi has brought back the guideline for all individuals to wear an acceptable face covering or face mask inside the campus grounds to return to face-to-face activities and events safely.

Face coverings may include those that have two or more layers of washable and breathable fabric that fits snugly against the sides of the face with no gaps and must have a nose wire to prevent air from leaking out of the top of the mask. Individuals are reminded that the face mask or face covering should completely cover the nose and mouth.

The reinstated policy of Adelphi University applies to everyone at the Garden City campus, Manhattan Center, Hudson Valley Center, Hauppauge Center, and at the Panther Shuttle transportation regardless of social distancing initiatives.

Adelphi’s decision is rooted in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s new recommendations for mitigating the transmission of the Delta variant, even among fully vaccinated individuals, as scientific data showed that they could also become infected by the variant.

Moreover, Adelphi University has also considered the CDC’s assessment of the level of community transmission of COVID-19, showing levels with the greatest risk in the university’s locations.

As the public health situation evolves, the university vowed to guarantee to amend its protocols as the appropriateness calls for it. Should the transmission levels change in the region, Adelphi is yet to update the mask policy.

Looking forward to a full and safe return to in-person instruction, activities, and campus life experiences, Adelphi University has once again reminded its students to get vaccinated before returning to the university for the commencement of the Fall 2021 semester.

All Adelphi students must upload their proof of vaccination to the Health Portal by Aug. 11, unless granted an exception by the University Health Services.
