Canada—International students can finally return to in-person learning this coming Fall 2021 term as British Columbia moves to step 2 of the reopening plan. COVID-19 cases are steadily dwindling, and 75% of adults have received at least one dose of the vaccine. This gives the province the liberty to loosen restrictions as compared to 16 months before.

As of June 15, 2021, personal gatherings outdoors of up to 50 individuals are allowed, and there is no ban on non-essential travel. Indoor gatherings can cater to up to 50 individuals. Although health safety protocols, such as protective covering or masks, and social distancing, remain in place.

Step 2 of the reopening plan also includes:

  • maximum 50 spectators for outdoor sports
  • liquor service at restaurants, bars, and pubs are extended until midnight
  • indoor sports games (no spectators) and high-intensity fitness with safety plans

If all goes well, British Columbia will move to step 3 of the reopening plan by July 1, 2021. Given this scenario, University Canada West continues to prepare for a full reopening of in-personal learning for October, Fall intake. Online learning will still be in place for the Summer 2021 intake.
