La Trobe University (CRICOS Provider Code Number 00115M) will take part in upskilling 5,000 mid-career workers and individuals in a bid to produce much-needed digital workers through the Victorian Government’s AU$64 million Digital Jobs program.

The program aims to establish Victoria’s digital workforce by providing 12 weeks of industry-backed training, followed by a placement in a digital job with a Victorian business in a span of 12 weeks.

Key Takeaways:

  • La Trobe responds to the demand of the industry for more digital workers in the market.
  • La Trobe will be one of the Victorian training providers of the government’s Digital Jobs program.
  • La Trobe will be providing training on Digital Skills for Programming and Software Development.

La Trobe will be one of the Victorian training providers covering fields such as digital marketing, data analytics, web development, cloud computing, and cybersecurity. The first 12 weeks will be filled with skills training to prepare and upskill learners to transition into digital careers.

Following the training is a paid internship with some of Victoria’s top employers already signed, including Amazon Web Services, Carsales, NCS, Salesforce, Infosys, MYOB, Siemens, ANZ, Swisse, SYPAQ, and Zendesk.

The first 450 participants will be starting with their industry placements this October.

According to Megan Fisher, La Trobe Pro Vice-Chancellor (Industry Engagement) the university is honored that, out of the leading educational institutions in the region, they have been entrusted with the opportunity to upskill Victorians to respond to the demand of more digital roles in some of Australia’s most respected businesses and organizations.

While the COVID-19 pandemic has emphasized the shortage in terms of digital skills in Australia, it has prompted the implementation of the Digital Jobs program that will respond to such a shortage. The program aims to train Victorians to be adaptive and technology-driven to keep up with the ever-growing and competitive market.
