The Fiske Guide to Colleges 2022, an independent college guide for 38 years, has named Gonzaga University one of the 326 “best and most interesting” U.S., Canadian, British and Irish colleges and universities—marking its seven-year streak to be included in the publication.

Serving as a guide for aspiring students in various universities, the publication provides an “insider’s look” at what it is like to be a student at the top schools in Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, and the United States.

Key Takeaways:

  • Gonzaga University marks its seven-year streak in the 2022 Edition of Fiske Guide to Colleges.
  • The Fiske Guide to Colleges is an independent college guide for 38 years spearheaded by former editor of The New York Times, Edward Fiske.
  • Gonzaga was noted for its commitment as a liberal arts university with a Jesuit ideal of educating the whole person.

The Fiske Guide to Colleges 2022 also highlights the distinctive identity and detailed information about the listed schools, covering a wide range of themes such as academic, social, and quality-of-life ratings. Alongside these aspects, the publication also taps on other subjects such as academics, financial aid, housing, food, the school’s campus setting, student body, social life, and extracurricular activities.

In its 2022 edition, the Fiske Guide to Colleges has noted Gonzaga for its strong commitment as a liberal arts educating the whole person: mind, body, and spirit in line with its Jesuit ideals.

The guide tackled Gonzaga’s extensive core curriculum for undergraduate students that includes courses in English composition, communication and speech, and critical reasoning, with doses of philosophy and religious studies, literature, mathematics, and scientific inquiry.

The publication also underscored how Gonzaga puts emphasis on writing, social justice, and global studies. Moreover, the core curriculum for undergraduates starts with a first-year seminar and ends with a core integration seminar.

Targeting how students may “educate themselves to become women and men for a more just and humane global community,” Gonzaga University offers more than 50 service-learning courses and more than 60 international programs, participated in by 56% of students.

In fact, half of all undergraduates take part in some form of community service.

The list provided by the publication was compiled by Edward Fiske, the former education editor for The New York Times.
