U.S. publication Woman Engineer Magazine has named Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) one of the top 20 universities with high regard for a diversified curriculum, student base, faculty, and inclusive learning environment.

The national publication is a career guidance and recruitment magazine for qualified women students and professionals in engineering, computer science, and information technology seeking employment and advancement opportunities in their careers.

Key Takeaways:

  • RIT was recognized for its strong commitment to delivering a diversified curriculum and to providing inclusive learning opportunities.
  • Women Engineer Magazine included RIT in the top 20 universities for such commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • RIT remains committed to implementing a strategic plan that outlines diversity and inclusion initiatives.

It is the institution’s first time to make it on the list of the top U.S. universities and graduate schools recognized for their commitment to diversity and inclusion in their instruction and program offerings.

RIT’s Kate Gleason College of Engineering and the College of Engineering Technology have contributed a fair share in developing core programs that serve diverse populations.

Moreover, the institution is very particular about establishing academic, cultural, and professional programs such as Women in Engineering, Women in Technology, and the Engineers of Color Creating Opportunities Center.

RIT has previously achieved national recognition from the STEM Workforce Diversity Magazine for its commitment to bridge diversity gaps in the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) workforce.

RIT has made diversity efforts a key facet of its strategic plan and recently built the focused Action Plan for Race and Ethnicity that outlines diversity and inclusion initiatives.

The action plan was developed collectively with heavy input from RIT students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

The Action Plan for Race and Ethnicity will guide RIT’s efforts over the next several years as it rolls out new programs, services, and policies to help create equal access, opportunities, and respect for all students, faculty, and staff.
