The Regional Development Centre at Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) introduced THRIVE, a new program that aims to support women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) careers and businesses.
In partnership with Enterprise Ireland, AIB and Local Enterprise Offices Louth, Cavan and Monaghan, the program will teach participants how to execute their ideas to produce new products and services within the tech, mechanical, pharma electronic, or food manufacturing sectors.
Key Takeaways:
- Dundalk Institute of Technology introduces the new THRIVE Program.
- The program envisions empowering women in STEM to execute their ideas into new products and services.
- The THRIVE Program also taps into women outside the STEM sector to pivot their existing skill sets to venture into leadership and management roles in STEM industries.
DkIT’s new program establishes strong capabilities, confidence, and connections among women in STEM. This will help them process new services and products they can market in the STEM sector.
According to Aidan Browne, head of Innovation and Business Development at DkIT, the new program is a significant response to the market failure and career disparity for women in STEM-focused industries and businesses.
The development of the THRIVE Program under the ATHENA STEM Project is reflective of the significant role of entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship in women’s economic growth, economic empowerment, and Ireland society in general.
The THRIVE Program has a multifaceted suite of support including the Thrive Execute, Thrive Innovate, and the Thrive Network.
Aside from the program’s support to women in STEM, it also extends to women in management in other sectors or work returners who want to pivot their existing experience and skill sets to venture into leadership and management roles in STEM industries.
For Lavina McGahon, Athena STEM Project Manager, the program will also appeal to women outside the STEM sector who see that the industry’s development of opportunities and career trajectories manifests increasing diversity and gender balance in senior management teams.
